Christmas Play/Party at Melissa's School

Melissa's school had their Christmas Party this past Friday. They had all the kids up on stage singing Christmas carols. Here's video part 1 & 2 (special thanks to Jason and Felicia, who had superior location and camcorders for these videos as Melissa was placed next to Valerie, their daughter, the cute girl with all the dance move in the video :) )

Melissa's school seems to make them do a lot of art projects. We're capturing them on photo (since there's a new one everyday and it's too much to keep all the originals)

Trip to Cal Academy of Science in SF

We went to California Academy of Science museum in San Francisco last weekend. It was so much fun. Melissa was very excited because she saw a lot of animals and fish. She seemed to be more interested in the animals on the land than in the water.

God's Creation Day

Melissa's school had a little party for God's Creation Day. Melissa's school is a Christian school so they don't celebrate Halloween, but they call it "God's Creation Day." Melissa was dressed up as a princess that day!

School Field Trip

Last week Mommy went to Melissa's school field trip with Melissa. We went to Prusch Farm and saw a lot of animals and pumpkins. Melissa was very interested in feeding the ducks and chicken. Here are some pictures from the field trip:

Melissa's School Photos

Melissa's school had their photo day and we got the photos back today. Scanned them for posting :) Professional photo still makes a big difference! I wonder how they got Melissa to pose like that. Also she looks so much more mature than usual in these photos.

We went to Prusch Farm today with some friends. We had so much fun, and Melissa got to pet a lot of animals =)

Melissa Cleaning

We are trying to teach Melissa that she needs to clean up after she plays her toys. Check out this video. She is cleaning up!

Church Retreat

This past weekend, we went to our church retreat at Scotts Valley. We had so much fun. We learned more about God and got to know some of the other church friends. Melissa probably had the most fun. When she woke up in the morning, the first thing she said was "I want to go to find my friends." Here are some pictures from the retreat.

Melissa sings a new song

Melissa loves this new song called "虎咕婆". The lyrics is actually a little scary.. Something like:

Long long time ago, a story that mommy once told.. Little children, be good and go to bed. If you don't sleep tiger lady is going to eat your ears.. if you don't make noise, tiger lady is going to eat your fingers.. So close your eyes, sleep tight..

Melissa is 2 years old!

Melissa turned two years old yesterday. This past weekend, we celebrated her birthday with our friend's daughter, Valerie. Valerie is three years old. Thanks to our family and friends who came to our party; we had such great time. Melissa was so excited that she refused to nap that afternoon...

Mommy made two banana cakes, one for the birthday party at home, and another one for the daycare so Melissa can cut the cake in daycare on 9/9. She loves the cake!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Melissa! Thanks for bringing so much happiness to our lives!

Melissa is dancing!

Check out, Melissa is dancing (sort of). She really likes music and moves her body with the music. Last weekend she learned new songs at the little kids bubble study group at church, and she was singing "hallelujah!"

Hanging out with Aunt Sally & Uncle Oliver

We had so much fun hanging out with Aunt Sally & Uncle Oliver 2 weeks ago. Melissa is always so happy and cheerful when Aunt Sally & Uncle Oliver are around. Thanks for visiting us, Sally & Oliver. We can't wait to see you again!

Singing a New Song

Melissa loves to sing. She continues to learn new songs. She likes to imitate the story tape or CD saying certain words or sentences. Check out the video below and see if you can tell what song it is!

First Time Peeing/Pooping in the Toilet

We had slowly started potty training Melissa since she will be 2 years old next month. She showed a lot of interest to go to the potty, but she hasn't actually peed or pooped in the potty. Yesterday, she did it for the first time! She even said "the water splashed to my butt" in Mandarin. Good job, Melissa! Keep it up!

Check out this video. She is able to sit on top of the potty for a while to finish her job although sometimes she likes to climb up and down just for fun...

Melissa's Recent Milestones

Here are some major milestones when Melissa was 18-22 month old:

Stats at 22 month check up ~ 65% height, 64% head, 60% weight.
• Walks really well and can walk to the park and walk back home most of the times.
• Loves to eat everything most of the times, except peas and beans which she always hates.
• Has great appetite and always wants more food.
• Doesn’t like to drink from her straw cup anymore and prefers to drink from the regular cup and often makes a big mess…
• Discovers that she really likes dumplings, bagels, and buns (man-to and boa zhe)!
• Understands a lot of words/expressions we speak (i.e. do you want to drink water, do you want to eat this, do you want me to read you a story, do you want to go out, what do you want to watch, what do you want me to read, is it yummy, is it tasty, is it fun, etc)
• Speaks fairly clearly; some of the new words she has learned include: Mommy/Daddy lai le (Mommy/Daddy is coming), Hao Chi (yummy),
• Very stubborn, she cries until she gets something she wanted.
• Starts crying when we say negative things about her.
• Loves to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Sesame Street, Caillou, Clifford the Red dog, and potty training movies.
• Can name at least 20 different animals/creatures (cow, bear, chicken, pig, horse, tiger, dog, cat, hippo, giraffe, elephant, crocodile (and she usually says so scary after saying crocodile), dinosaur, duck, bird, turtle, penguin, deer, snake, monkey, lion, mouse, rabbit, fish, crab, rhino, koala bear, frog, sheep/lamb).
• Great interest in reading books and loves new books.
• Very energetic and doesn’t like to sleep or nap.
• Can sing ABC song (the whole song) and knows the melody for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Old MacDonald had a farm and many many more that she can sing along with.
• Sleeps from close to 10pm to 8am ish and naps around 12:30-2ish.
• Doesn’t like to brush teeth but doesn’t mind drinking water before bed. (unfortunately that’ll probably hold back the potty training)..
• Finally baths in the regular bathtub in our bathroom and likes splashing around a lot now..

Juicy Watermelon!

Here is an interesting picture of Melissa eating watermelon during the July 4th BBQ at Vasona Park. You can see how much she enjoys the watermelon, but towards the end, she kept saying "my clothing is wet" because the watermelon juice dripped on her clothes.

I love slides

Melissa loves the slide. Sometimes she can go on the slide over 10 times or 20 times. Here is an interesting video that shows you how much she loves the slide!

Trip to Oakland Zoo

We went to the Oakland Zoo last weekend with Jason, Felicia, and Valerie. Melissa and Valerie both sang in the car while we drove to the zoo. We all had so much fun at the zoo. Melissa recognized a lot of the animals, especially tiger, giraffe, monkey, and elephant. The weather was gorgeous but a bit too hot. Melissa fell asleep after lunch shortly, but Valerie (who is a year older than Melissa) managed to stay up and went to petting zoo. Too bad, Melissa missed the petting zoo, but we all think she's probably too afraid to touch the real animals. To conclude the trip, we decided to go on the little train. Unfortunately, there were limited seats when we tried to get on the train so we had to sit at the first row. Melissa got scared by the engine and honk noise right away, and she cried for a few minutes and held onto mommy tightly. She didn't seem to enjoy the train ride this time....Oh well, next time we will remember to sit further away from the train engine!

Splash Time

Melissa loves bathing these days, and she never wants to get out of the bathtub. She just learned how to sqeeze water out from her bathing toys. Look at this video, she is trying to splash the water onto Daddy and Mommy!

Melissa is on the phone

It has been a while since we updated the blog. Life is busy as usual, but we did manage to get some cute videos of Melissa. Here is one with Melissa "pretending" that she is talking on the phone. Melissa loves talking on the phone these days. She always fights for the phone with mommy when mommy is trying to talk =P Yesterday she is having a real conversation with Aunt Sally for about 10 minutes. She sang several songs to Aunt Sally and told her what she saw in Oakland Zoo.

More Singing

Melissa loves to sing these days. She can sing along many songs when she hears the melody of the songs! Here is one of her favorite songs!

Melissa Tumbling

Melissa is learning how to tumble and flip.. She usually ends up rolling towards on side or another, but every now and then she'll succeed in getting a perfect flip.. Hard to capture it on video though, here are some attempts.

First Time Sitting on Toilet

We got a potty seat for Melissa, and she tried it for the first time a couple days ago. Melissa is a big girl now, and hopefully soon she will know how to pee and poop in the big toilet!
